In a significant move to address the growing parking challenges in Haryana’s residential areas, the state government has introduced a stilt parking policy. The initiative aims to streamline parking in neighborhoods plagued by congestion and accommodate the ever-increasing number of vehicles.
Key Highlights of the Policy
Mandatory Stilt Parking: Houses with more than two floors must now include stilt parking as part of their construction plan. This rule also applies to four-storey houses. However, three-storey houses are exempt from this requirement.
Registration Conditional on Compliance: Properties with more than two floors and separate flats will only be registered if stilt parking is incorporated into the building’s design.
Feedback from Residents: The government has invited residents and stakeholders to submit their suggestions or concerns about the policy. Feedback can be shared until February 1, after which the finalized rules will be implemented with the approval of Chief Minister Naib Saini.
Additional Measures for Plots in NCR
For plots larger than 500 square meters in the National Capital Region (NCR), homeowners are required to provide detailed information regarding construction or demolition activities via the DOST portal. This measure ensures better monitoring and organization of development activities in the region.
Changes to Building Code-2017
To accommodate the new stilt parking policy, the Haryana government will amend the Building Code-2017. These modifications are being carried out under the guidance of the Town and Country Planning Department to align the rules with the vision of creating a more organized and efficient parking system.
A Step Toward Improved Urban Living
The introduction of this policy marks a significant step toward resolving parking-related issues in Haryana’s urban and semi-urban areas. By ensuring proper parking facilities in residential constructions, the government aims to enhance the quality of life for its citizens and promote a more systematic approach to urban planning.
